A comprehensive map of worldwide gender disparities

How women and men compare around the world, on poverty, work, income, land, health, violence, education and power, in both directions, with a source on every number.

What it is

A free public website with a world map. Pick an indicator (unpaid care hours, land ownership, homicide, income, and dozens more) and see how women and men compare, country by country, with the source, year, and type of data on every number. Each indicator gets a short card that names the usual objection and answers it with data.

Why

It started from a viral graphic about women and men and a commenter who said it was “for sure not true in the US”. He was partly right. Some of the numbers people repeat trace back to a 1980 UN line or to figures the original source has since walked back. I wanted one place where every claim carries its source, and where the counterargument is answered on the page with data.

The rules it is built on

  • Both directions. Where men are worse off, that is on the map too.
  • Linked indicators travel together (homicide victims by sex always shows offender sex).
  • No data is not zero, and sources are never mixed silently.
  • A card publishes only when its copy is approved and its source’s license has cleared.

Status

A private prototype exists: a Python package that builds everything from saved, hashed snapshots of each source (no live API calls at build time), a map with an indicator picker, and a publishing gate. License requests to several data providers are out. Nothing is public yet.
